I have been using the carbon for my aqua clear filter. I noticed when I cleaned it that there was a few spots of a rusty red colour on the media bag. I have never seen this before, my hubby thought maybe it was blood, ya okay from what? Does anyone have any ideas?

I have just gotten my blck diamond carbon, tonight I am doing a water change and thought about changing it to that. How much do you guys put in the media bag?

For the amount of carbon to be used in your filter bag, I would say a half cup of carbon is all and replace it after a few days! I also wouldn't recommend using it constantly as it along with your skimmer will remove beneficial trace minerals and vitamins etc.
With carbon a little goes along way!!!
As for the coloration you are talking about it could be as Raven allerted to or uneaten food or another type of microalgae, or maybe even a reaction due to the carbon and medication or something in your tank water!

Ya It's Not Cyano. I Think It May Be Uneaten Food Or An Algae.
