I have never used carbon in my set-up. I see alot of people on here either run it all the time or, periodically. Am I missing out on something?

I would agree on that omard it does help keep down on smelly water and helps wioth "scrubbing the water" to help keep it clearer as well.

It helps mine stay clean. , when i do water changes its 55 gallons at a time
    every 3 weeks.
I often say we dont take care of the fish, we maintain the water .
I also have to run a dihumindifier in my basment it keeps every thing dry

Hello... Again! I never use it either but it help the water with the phosphates & nitrates
but not for long, and on the other hand I understand that remove trace elements
so after some time is nothing more than mechanical filtration. I saw your tank and
looks very good! however if you decide to use it, try to check water parameters pretty often, for things like iodide & magnesium

I don't plan on using it, but, have also heard it removes beneficial food from your water.

You got that right! I never had a need to use it, but while cycling my current tank it was another way of filtration the carbon was very old already, and before I went change it went
all over the web searching for forums and read to my eyes almost bleed and exactly where
I read it at, can't remember but it remove a lot of things. my fear was the salt it self...lol
but it is use for water purification, on must cases

Why not use chemi pure instead of carbon? Does all the same things as carbon plus nitrate and amonia scavenge? Maintains constant ph and keeps water so clear, plus a bag lasts for 4-6 months.

chemi pure it's been around 4ever I use it my self a lot of people use it with great results it has carbon but it also have an ion exchange resin that keeps you from frequent water changes...the mystery bag
