apologies for once another blast from the past question

during my previous term keeping reef tanks - carbon was recomended for temporary use - due to the problem of leaching - (nasties taken out being dumped back in)

on notice on this site, many experienced ( judging from quality of posts) people are using carbon full time

    question

would it be best to run a little and change it every week or run a larger QTY and change it less often

advice please - what would you suggest for a 70 gallon tank (As in amount of carbon and frequency of changing said amount)

    thanks in advance

I will never run a tank without Carbon. It has too many benefits and I have never noticed a downfall, been using it for almost 5 years now. But in all honesty I can't really tell you how much to use, maybe put a cup of it in a filter sock and change it out monthly.

+1. I just use the amount in the bags for the HOB filters. I change mine out about every three weeks. Only noticed benefits, never a downfall

I use Chemi-Pure. It says it can last up to 6 months, but I change mine's at 4. No ill effects, only benefits.

Thanks Otty (Happy Birthday) and Tronb24

I have 2 options on location

1 - in the chamber of my hang on MCE Deltec
2 - in a cannsiter that I can attach to one of my 900 LPH power heads

which of these would be better?

    Thanks !

I would put it in the chamber so you are forcing water through it.
