i returned my what i was sold as a carnation which turned out to be a Umbellulifera sp. (flower tree) so i turned it in for a preety large multi lump colony that has been there in the lfs for a couple months i look at its growth every time i go to my lfs. it is spicky and spiny with open polyps it is plumped up more than it was in the store and as soon as i put it in i fed the tank iodine, reef snow, zooplex and a mother load of N.H.B.S. i wasn'st sure if it would fit but it is tickling my yellow gorg. and yellow gorgs. are very agressive and dendronepthyas are extremeley peaceful so i wanna frag it i heard that once the frag it anchored tho incrust it grows roots?[IMG]

Congrats on the find!!! I've been looking for one but most of the wholesalers we typically use never seem to have them with the exception of one.....and they were UNGODLY EXPENSIVE!!!

I don't have any personal experience with them. Years ago, I ordered a bunch of sea pens and got a couple of these with them. They did well in a VERY DEEP sand bed. They don't really grow roots, but I guess that would be the best description for their stabilizing structure under the sand.

I don't keep my sand beds very deep. My plan was to cut the bottom out of a butter tub and then poke some circulation holes in the sides. Then I was going to glue LR rubble around the tub to make it seem natural.

i had the nerve to cut it last night and the (2) cuttings are rubberbanded and with polyps open.i called live aquaria and asked them if all the advice and what im doing is right they said ''wow, your doing everthing a carnation needs!''. i do not mean to change the subject but where in the world did you ever find a sea pen forsale?

That was too many years ago and my brain is old. ;D I did some of my own trans-shipping sometimes and I might have found it that way. I never sold them.....I pretty much kept them as a pet. They were PIGGIES!!! I would turn off the water feed ball valve and I turn the water in that tank absolutely filthy with phytoplankton and zooplankton for a half hour. (Obviously, I had to keep a small powerhead in that tank). Then I would open the valve and the leftovers would be distributed to all of the other corals in the wall system. I was always shocked at how much they cleaned the water on their own.
