Not a must; just makes keeping one fed a bit easier. You'll just have to watch his health feeding twice/day; you might have to increase to 3 times daily.

Wrasses are pretty hardy once settled in a system. They are not the best shippers however.

yeah I know the shipping is what worries me. I'm going to call the LFS and ask if they have one or will be getting one in soon.

I want this wrasse or the Mccosker's and it seems every LFS by me just never wants to get them in! :( I keep trying though lol. I'd rather skip the $35 shipping. I think these fish are absolutely beautiful and everyone that has one in their tank loves the way they swim.

why is it that the wrasse has to be fed 3 times a day? especially if there are a lot of amphipods, copepods, and in my case I have a ton of Mysid shrimp running all around my live rock? Just wondering bc the lfs just got a carpenter in that I am looking at

They are very active fish (read high metabolism) and in nature feed on zooplankton in the water column. They don't go actively picking at the rocks or sand, unless they spot something obvious.

Yes, some of those critters in your tank will supplement their diet, but the majority of those critters only come out a night when your fish are asleep.

In the long term, if you don't feed enough for these fish, they'll slowly wither away.

ok thanks for the link. The Mysid Shrimp are right now in such an abundance that they are literally unable to hide or just not worried about it, literally you can watch them running all over the rock day and night. it is quite funny actually.
