I have tried many a DIY fishtraps, including the one John built, with zero luck. Here are two ways I have found to work:
Hook, line, and sinker. Literally catch him with a fishing rig, but it's tougher to do with other fish, specially clowns that INSIST on being first to the food ;)

Or, tear out the rocks :-/

What type tang are you thinking about adding ? If it's not a shoal tang then I doubt you'd have all that much of a problem afet a few days of chasing sometimes . But a clown with change colors when Pissed and any tang will move off . Or if the one you have is really large ? and not much rock work for them to run through and hide in may case a little more chasing . I have a trap if you need to borrow it , But again I add tangs to tangs all the time and its usually just a little chasing and maybe a fin nip..Then again I have seen the new tang not be bullied and turn it on the chaser..

Yeah, the only thing was I talked to the LFS owner and he informed me that the particular Clown tang that I had purchased was brought back because it was too aggressive... thanks for the info now..

Yes but you know most people do not understand the nature of beast and they see a little chasing and they go all crazy and just over react. I mix tangs ad when If more would add the new fish at night when its dark in the tank they would have less problems . and again it depends on the new fish you want as to how it will react. But good luck with what ever you do ..

GOT HIM! lol Bought a big net and put Nori in it. He went right for it. I'm going to put the Clown tang into sump until tomorrow and decide what will happen from there.

+ 1 million. Same goes for all fish, not just tangs. They are going to have to sort out the territories, and there is going to be squabbling every time they do. But unless serious physical injury is resulting, it's always better to just let them figure it out for themselves.

Lucky buddy I bet the next guy will never get it near a new LOL they tend to get trap shy like the clowns we had hosting inside the clam they where both totally trap wise..I caught every fish in the tank in the trap 2 or 3 times the clowns would not get near it. I wish I was near you I'd buy it in a second I love that tang species and the shoals are my favorite

My friend has a clear piece of plexi (acrylic) about 12" wide and the depth of his tank--When he wants to catch his tangs he just hangs romaine or nori in the corner on a lettuce clip. When the tangs start eating he just puts the plexi in and sections off the corner!! Then it is easy pickins with the net--works great.
