How would you catch fish in a tank already filled with live rock? I really don't want to rip up all the rock to get them, but they need to be moved fairly quickly to a hospital tank. I already have a couple of the fish from the tank in the hospital, but I need to get the rest.

    how big is it?

I take a 20oz coke bottle, cut the top out and invert it and shove it back in. Some folks attach it but I find tension holds it fine.

Makes a kind of funnel into the bottle (makes a handy funnel for all kinds of things really).

    Put some food in.

I last did this a few weeks ago to catch a blenny. It took 27 hours before it caught him, but it was extremely easy to do.

depending on size of fish, you can apply same concept to larger or smaller bottles.

    good luck.

Ah, that's a good idea, but neither of the (harder to catch) fish will fit into a soda or even a gatorade widemouth type neck lol. I need to catch a Kole Tang, and a Banggai Cardinal. The Sharknose Goby I'll be able to catch because he's not scared witless from seeing the others taken out and wills till come out when I'm around.

some have used a small baited barbless hook with success. others have tried to coax the fish near the surface with food and have a net set to scoop them when they came up for the food.

Heh, I just got the sharknose using the food method lol. Imma try leaving the net in the tank for a little bit, and see if i can catch one of them while they're near it.

I bought this online and works like a charm! Its a trap and an acclimator. I just caught three of my tangs on Saturday within 1 hour!

    Reef Gently AccliMate Acclimator/Transporter Tank

I put a rock inside with an algae sheet rubberbanded to it, and within minutes, Whamo! got'm! Its great because its also a drip acclimator. Here is a pic of acclimating my maroon clown:

I know its a few bucks, but a multi-purpose trap/acclimator/transporter to me, was well worth it!

    Hope this helps!

I wonder if it could catch a shy/coy/smart mantis shrimp that I have in my tank?
