Saw this down at the LFS when I went to buy my first ever coral. This guy looked so good, but not sure on what it is so gave it a miss. At first I thought it was a nice bright mushroom but a quick iphone search in store on mushroom corals didnt return anything that looked like this?

I do not think Caulastrea. It appears to be more of a red/orange mushroom to me. But on the right it seems thick – not shroom like, but I am guessing that is just the pic and its flatter. Those inward stretching lighter lines point to a mouth and I bet shroom. (unless its thicker)

Perhaps more noteworthy are the apparent strands of algae on that rock – really tough to tell by the pic due to the blur.

Doesn't a scolly have a more defined indentation in the center? could be a good call on your part - I am going to google it and see what I can find.

I dropped the Mushroom idea due to the thickness....And don't ricordia's have more prominent bubbles?....

I suspect that if one were to slightly irritate the tissue, it would pull into a skeleton that looks like a Scolymia, Cyanaria, etc

    My thoughts as well.

It appears too thick to be a shroom.
