Right well it has only been a day but..... He tends to stay near the surface near the power head, in fact all new addition to my tank seem to find refuge there for the first few days.

My concern and knowing that this is the the difficulty of this fish, is that I have not seen him eat the special food mix I make with great love for all my fish. I think I've noticed him peck at the rock work and sand bed once in a while but he clearly does not feel safe or comfortable yet.

Only critter that stresses him ( as he does with all new arrivals) is my old grumpy yellow tang, I was concerned my 6liner would ave been the real problem but he couldn't give a ... Less about him. Now I went through a very similar experience when I added my chaetodontoplus mesolecus, he would not eat and stay in hiding. after less than a week however he started eating the food I made and is now happily roaming around the aquarium and has even learnt that when i shake the surface of the water its feeding time and he comes running with the rest of the "sharks". in fact the yellow tang was more aggressive towards my singapore than what he is to the cbb.

Anyway any tips, help and personal experience are always greatly valued from me, thank you ladies and gents

Oh right we are talking about a 450liter system with lsb, lr, under led lighting, and a tunze reefpack505

    Live stock
    Bsp
    2 true percula
    Yellow tang
    Paired mandarins
    6 liner
    Coral beauty
    And the emperor
.......juvenile hippo tang (I couldn't resist I'm sorry!! He was to cute in the shop the size of a 5 chf coin, not that all of you will know what this looks like, but he is growing crazy quick)

20 liters of water changed weekly and 100 monthly (should I consider dropping this 100 liters wc?)

Hope you have better luck than me. I've tried 3 over the last 5 yrs w/ no luck. Longest one last about 9 months. They just always seem to "pick" at rocks and never really eat my food. Good luck

right so its been about a week now, iv seen him nibble the fish food i make but he doesnt seem very thrilled about it like the other fish yet. what i have had great success with are carpet shell clams, he loves them but i dont want him to make the link that this is the only food source. i would very much prefer if he ate the blend i make, as it has a much more varied substance (including carpet shell clams). what do you folks think?

should i just feed him the clams and consider myself lucky he is eating at all or should i insist on feeding my tank the bland i make and only give the copper band a clam or two during the week if i see he isnt eating?

p.s i throw in the DT a copy opened clams and they get devoured clean in less than a couple mins, i was afraid they would be left untouched and it would pollute my water but they dont have time for this

the tang is going to mess with him, it takes awhile for him to stop, but the tang may also help him to start eating. i believe in blood worms for this fish, it has what it takes to keep him alive and healthy and mine loves them, give them a try and see if yours will eat them.

I tried one about 4 or 5 years ago... put a 3" juvie in a 55g tank. I was feeding a frozen mix of brine, mysis, clam, squid, krill, and bloodworms. He'd nibble at the worms and squid, but spit most back out. Only lived about 7 weeks.

Personally, I'd suggest that if you have something... ANYTHING that he will readily eat, feed it to him. You can work on weaning him once he's more accustomed to his new environment and tankmates.

thx Mr. Bill, he still doesnt eat the blend i make but seems to enjoy the clams. as mentioned before i would rather he not solemnly ate this but i dont want him not to eat anything at all either. i was thinking about popping a couple clams maybe twice a week but not more. here is a picture of him now, i can tell when a fish is nice and plump but im not sure with this little guy.

So I had about 4 cubs of my old fish food left and decided to throw it out and make some fresh food. I bought about 100 grams of varied clams and mollusks ( I can't tell you the PITA it was to open and deshell them all...URGH!) blended it it together with a garlic head, a nice chunk of cod fillet, a few calamari rings and a butt load of nori. Well you know what? The pita was totally worth it!!!! He munches this blend, I'm uber happy lets hope he keeps it up
