I'd like to see if anyone has an opinion one way or the other on a single central overflow vs. two corner overflows in a roughly 72" x 20" footprint tank - to be set up as a reef.

I am putting the tank in a very open area and both ends will be accessible and viewable so corner overflows present an esthetic problem there, something a central overflow would solve. I've had a 180 with a single large central overflow, but that presented some issues of its own (less depth in the middle to stack rock, single point of failure on the drain if snails get into it, etc.). Additionally, the tank I want to set up will be less than 24" wide - probably closer to 18" - 20" - so taking away a few inches in the middle for the overflow will have a larger impact than it did with my 180. Lastly, I'm worried about access. My 180 was built into a wall and I had access from behind. This tank will be up against a wall so much more limited access - looking into the overflow to get out any trapped critters, etc.) will be problematic and that concerns me.

I think I'm going to be doomed to corner overflows and losing the end-viewing area (though I'll probably cover them up with some removable wood panels to finish them off).

Anyone have any insight or experiences they wish to share here?

I have a AGA 75 with the center megaflow overflow, and I love it.l The side's are clear, and I've never (in my 1 year of use) had a critter get in there. Maybe I should check??!! I used a store bought dorso overflow kit made for the AGA's. It flow's like mad, will clear a disturbed tank clear within an hour. Also, I piled my rock around the center overflow, using it to my advantage(less rock really, and a place to lean stuff up on).

Just my experience with mine...hope it helps. I had a single corner overflow...it was ok I guess... but the center looks better to me now, and is much bigger, more water to flow down and turn the tank water around more often...

    good luck ...!!
