my chaeto algae in my refugium seems to be dieing. a big chunk of it is getting pale and it flakes away at the touch. i have been growing it for almost 6 months no issues. it is under a 20 watt daylight tube i have it on about 10 hrs a day. the only thing i can think of is the chaeto area is where i top off a few times a day. could the fresh water be causing this? the little snails and things run when i top off but theres pods and critters that are fine down there. also my chaeto does not tumber i flip it over every time i change my filter sock which is every few days. i used to have to harvest a little bit of the algae at a time because it was growing so much

ya could be. im very careful about how i feed due to my worrying about algae. my remora skimmer also takes alot out of the water. i feed every 2-3 days a pinch at a time until they start wasting it...then the shrimps get the leftovers

The parts that are white take them out they are dead and will just put alot of waste in the water

I've found that pure fresh water will do that to cheato. I started to top off in a different location now and my cheato is no longer dieing.
