what is the best light to make chaeto algae grow, i am using a 15W T8 Preheat Fluorescent Lamp, Gro-Lux but my algae isnt growing very well,i also have mangroves in the sump and Caulerpa but nothing is growing very well.
i have also tried a 13w compact fluorescent 6500, but when i use this light i get alot of red slime algae.i run the light 12 hours on and 12 hours off. thanks

Chaeto grows like gangbusters for me, in fact, I GIVE away gallon zip locks stuffed full of it very often!

I use 2 x aluminum cone like reflectors, come with their own clamp- bought at Menards (like a HD, Lowes, etc.)

In each reflector I use a 100W ( I think it uses like 27W?) CFL bulb, 6500K- also bought at Menards.

I use a simple wheel timer- (bought at you guessed it)- and run the lights 12on/12off- oppposite my DT LED's, which the blues are on for 10hr/dy.

NO kidding, grows green, healthy Chaeto big time!!

If your tank is new, its prob not dirty enough yet for chaeto to grow! It needs some nutrients;)
