    drop-in light?

I use a CFL flood light from wal-mart with a clip on fixture... works, cheap, and easy...

Yeah I have seen on some other posts that people use an underwater LED light to light up their chaeto, not sure what forum I seen it on anymore

Yeah, I'd be weary of underwater lights. There was a thread on here a few months back with someone who had one, designed for underwater, and it started to corrode, and leach copper into his system. Salt has strange effects on things. Like it says above, a CFL from Wal-Mart is all you need.

I agree on the CFL bulb. My chaeto grows like weeds. Any "Daylight" would be 6500 K or more, and that's all you need. I know they have higher kelvins now, so look around. Not all bulbs mention the Kelvin rating, but some will. I would not stick the LED's in the water.

I have some of the 48 silicone encapsulated LED's strips and even though it says they're submersible I would not risk it.

    Just my 2 cents.

Okay sounds like I should go with the CFL, how much of the backing do you strip off the back or do you just clip the light on the hood and how long do you light the chaeto? 8 to 10 hours?

I have cheato in my sump, I have a clamp-on work light that I picked up at Lowes like this one:

Grip 37265 Clamp on Work Light with 6 ft. Cord

clamped to the side of the sump...

I run my light 24/7. some folks run a reverse light cycle when their tank lights are off and this helps with Ph swings...
