I've got a small chaeto growing in my fuge (in my sump). I have a 60W compact fluorescent reading lamp as the lighting (from home depot). Is this enough light for this macroalgae? I've got a lighting cycle on from 6AM to 12PM.

It's enough wattage. I just don't know if it's the best spectrum. Is it more yellow or more white?

Kind of in between - it is a bit yellowish, but being fluorescent it is whiter than most incandescent bulbs.

Get yourself the 6500k compact fl bulb from home depot. It works well

I put a 6500k daylight compact flourescent bulb on my chaeto in fuge, it's in sump also. I found the bulb at Lowe's for $3.38, it does very well

Thanks for the tip - I'll pick up one of those bulbs asap. How is my light time? Is 6 hours per day enough?

I run my fuge lighting 24/7 but that's just me. It helps to keep the ph in my tank stable.

If you are running cheato, your chaeto needs a break. I run my fuge from 10pm-4am (during a chunk of time when my DT lights are off) and it keeps my pH at 8.4 all day. If I'm not mistaken, you only want to run a fuge 24/7 if you have macros that will go sexual?
