I don't have a sump/refugium. Would it b ok for me to get the chaetos and place the clumps wedged between live rocks here and there?

It will spread quite a bit around your tank but it will work. Some people put it in floating hatching boxes inside the display tank so it doesnt spread as much.

You could also make a small fuge out of a hang on the back filter and a small light.

I made a box out of egg crate and zip ties and placed it behind the lr so you dont see it the light gets to it and the tangs can pick it if they want.

Cheato will break apart and cause a mess in your tank before it settles into your tank's chemistry. Either use a small hamster ball or critter carrier to minimize that. Once breakage stops, you can pull it out and let it sit in the tank. Chaeto will grow fast under the right conditions though. You need to get a daylight spectrum bulb for it to do its job though.

    K+ for that idea...
I have a refuge on my reef tanks but dont in my other tanks. I like to have chaeto in all my tanks but it does blow everywhere and gets sucked into my pumps.

I also like to place some inside my reef tank so my tangs can eat it. Still blows around. I think I am going to make that!

As for the egg crate idea, what is LR?

I thought about putting one of those suction cupped, in sink plastic sponge holders in to hold my chaeto.

I took the cheto our of the egg crate today and shook it and an hr later saw alot of pods on the glass. Looks like I accomplished what I tried to do. Still keeping cheato for the tangs
