I currently have a 20 gallon tank setup as my fuge. My chaeto has grown into about the size of a basketball in my fuge. Now should I trim it back because I don't know how much flow is actually making it through the massive ball it has become?

I would keep it trimmed back some. by trimming it you will be giving the new chaeto room to grow in and absorb the extra nutrients in the tank.

I think you can cut out what you don't want.

I just pull out the top bits every couple days, since cyano grows on it.
