dont worry, i have had it for 3 years like that.. Its not like i stare at it xD

the only reason why I even get close to it is to add more water. ;)''

but i could find a way to cover the tank where the UV is on to prevent the light from hitting the eyes. My main concern is the algae though.. would it be ok if i leave it like it is?

Wear one of these when you get near it.

i don't know what that is. I'm guessing its not a uv since no aquarium uv light that kills would be without a sleeve. just like at the tanning salons they tell you be sure to wear the eye shields, its because uv damage is cumulative. some don't do it and think ahhh ...but when it comes to my eyes i believe in protecting them.
why don't you find the item you have on line and look at what its manual says. you can find almost every manual on line.
3 years is a long time to be running that like that if its not safe for you. i hope its safe.

it came with one.. I was supposed to connect it to a pvc but i did not have space to do it that way at the time, so i took it out.
I had it under the tank so it was covered most of the time anyway, unless i needed to check the water.

Same here, the UV is in a fishroom that i dont necessarily go to unless i need to check the filter. Even then, I dont stare at the light because I know its no good. I was thinking on painting that side of the tank black so the light didnt get out.. Or a cover. just havent had time to do it yet.

So aside from my eyes.. is this going to hurt the chaeto and possibly other types of macro algae?

Ok. but right now my question is about the chaeto and other macro alage.
I'll cover the light when I get the time. I promise::)
Like i said, its not like I am there more than 5 mins per week( if not per month) staring straight into the light. I will be alright meanwhile i find a way to fix it.
If you guys think its best I will turn the UV lights off, but I would still like my original question answered :p
