I too experienced my cheto melting away...

This was the first thing I did, remove the GFO as PO4 was measuring 0.00. Now, PO4 routinely measures between 0.02 and 0.05 ppm.

This was the second thing...instead of a 65k bulb from Home Depot, I changed over to the "Daylight" bulb...I know, it should be "the same"...

Any time you make 2 changes at the same time, you'll be left wondering which of the two made the most impact... in short, I don't know...

It won't be long before I see if anyone in the DT will eat the stuff...it grows like a weed!

A lot of us on here use bulbs very similar to that bulb and get good growth. I have noticed in most peoples pics of their fuge the light is close to the water surface. Try moving the light to 3"-4" above the water suface and see if that helps.

So the half a tennis ball of it I had left yesterday morning was eaten by my pods while we talked about this during the day. It's the only thing that makes any sense. At night (reverse photo period) no chaeto would disappear. During the day when the sump light was off, considerable reduction.

Now I'm debating if I try again or if I take sostoudt biopelet route.

I have had a similar problem growing gracilaria... I think pods love it... but I can grow cheato no problem...

could it be that there are different strains of cheato, and pods will eat one strain and not the other?
