skimmer killed my chaeto, just use it now. No fuge, if there are no nitrates it doesn't matter what kind of light you use.

If it fell into the saltwater then soak and rinse it well in Freshwater. the salt will keep working on it. Just unplug it first please :)

i think that bulbs the culprit.before you chance anything costly, change that bulb to a agricultural bulb from home depo or a power compact bulb.

I have dropped lights and PH ,ORP O2 , Thermometers , old non water tight heaters to my heater controllers and I dip them in Freshwater to cut the salt if the whole thing went in and assuming it was a ballast involved its either toast or not and the salt will continue to eat away at it.. Its you choice The bulbs are water proof just get the base or Pins washed off My cell phones I dip and soak and wash in rubbing alcohol :)

ok.... so i tried the pond stabilizer, and it didnt work.. it did not let out enough water, so more water went to the sump instead of the fuge... with how i have it plumed, any ideas on how to stabilize it, with the flow control on the pump i just cant seem to get it

Just go with what works for your setup. If the skimmer is working better than the cheato in a fuge, keep the skimmer and be happy with it.

I have to agree. A reptile bulb is designed to heat an area for sunbathing, not
    plant growth.
