That's pretty much what I did for about a month until I got my fuge working. I also had a box made out of eggcrate for the mangroves.

I'm doing the exact same thing with a small plastic betta tank(today as a matter of fact)for my 28 cube. And for mounting it,i'm thinking of using a spare mag float to hold the box in place and locate it out in front of one of my returns for a little flow through it.Found it at walmart for like 5 bucks.:) I currently have it stuffed in my 29 between some rocks, but my damn satanic damsel keeps tearing it out of any place i put it.I'll be soooo glad when i find that little jack*** a new home , after the chaeto grows out some i'll make another box for the 29

I mounted the eggcrate box on a magfloat, using gorilla glue (urethane glue, brown color). The stuff is safe, but it needs to be 100% dry before you put it in the tank. I scrathed up the top of the magfloat with sandpaper, since GG doesn't stick well to smooth plastic. I still use it in my fuge to hold the mangroves and chaeto, since I didn't make a return section and don't want that all up in the pump. The acrylic box is from a drip acclimaton box set...thing...and that has suction cups.

Thats a good idea for the eggcrate. This little betta tank is about a half quart and bowfront,so for this,i'm just gonna sandwich the mag float between the inside of the box to the out side of the glass. What size holes did you drill?I want them big,but don't want pieces floating out,but yet have at least some flow through it.

Well, the acrylic box has holes pre-drilled, as I used the inside box of this acclimation set. The holes are there so you don't have to net the fish, and can just remove the inner box, which drains into the outer box.

There's probably 2 holes on the small sides, 4 holes on the big sides, and 2 holes on the bottom, each about 1/2" or 5/8".
