    Howdy all!

Had a quick question regarding chaeto. I have some growing for nutriant export, and I really like the idea of low maintance natural marine aquariums.

So here it is, are there any critters that I could put into my refugium that would enjoy a meal of chaeto?

I think it would be of good benefit to keep it trimmed with animals isntead of having to stick my hands in there once a weekish. Now I don't mind trimming it already, am just curious if there was a way I could keep the natural theme going and keep my hands out (aside from droping in frozen foods).

    Much thanks!

the point of trimming( and removing) its is to remove it and all the nutrients it absorbed while in the water.

to have a animal just eat it would release most maybe even all the nutrients it just absorbed.

when using the word natural also its good to remember a glass box full of water isnt the ocean, its impossible to replicate a whole planet in the tank. having to add food to the water is proof enough of that.(not to say its impossible to have a self sustained tank, that only provided with light)

    I appreciate the quick reply!

Yeah I'm well aware of the fact that creating a truely natural enviornment would be extremely difficult. And I for one do not have the time nor expertise to accomplish such a feat. However I do tend to lean to allowing nature handle my tank, with the exception of pumps and lighting.

But its good to know that is chaeto is eatting it would release those nutrients back into the water. Any idea on what would find this type of algae tastey?

For some reason I was thinking if the animals were to consume the algae it wouldn't be. Ohh well, back to trimming I suppose. Thanks again for the quick responce!

i think only larger crabs or fish could eat chaeto, as snail can't rip it apart into bite size pieces. ive seen tangs eat it
