About three weeks ago I went out of town and my chalice coral suffered some large sand deposits due to a fish and when I came back home I blew the sand off the coral but there were sections were skeleton was showing. Now those areas have become larger and there is an algae growth over the flesh of the coral. When I try to blow the algae away it seems to be taking coral flesh with it?!?!? I don't know what to do at this point, there are some sections of the coral that still look fine but the algae seems to be taking over? Any advice on what I can do to save what is left of this coral?

Frag the good sections and trash the rest. Hopefully it can recover.

When you frag it dip it iodine to help in heal and to hopefully kill anything that might harm the chalice.

    A little more help please?

How do I go about fragging the piece? Also how exactly do I iodine dip?
Here is a pic of the piece before all this happened. currently sections around the outer rim look alright as well as most of the right half of the disc. the areas near the bottom where the sand had collected are exposed white with algae growing over the skeleton

    Iodine dip

if you use Lugols solution the generally accepted principle is 40 drops per gallon of water and leave them in the solution for 15 mins so if you want to use 2 litres of salt water from your tank - only 20 drops required

if you buy a commercial coral dip - just go by the instructions on the packaging IMO

fragging that monti should be easy, I would use long nose pliers and just snap a few milllimeters above the decayed area, and then glue or putty those sections to a piece of rock rubble or a frag plug

I dipped the chalice last night, how long should I wait to dip again? what signs am I looking for? I used a mix of Coral Revive cleaner and Lugols iodine solution to dip for 10 minutes. My LFS told me that this was the best place to start before I go fragging the whole piece as the coral may grow back over its old skeleton? What are anybodies thoughts on this?!!? Any help is appreciated.
