I would put it on the sand as well, see how it does down there. If it recovers and retains its colors and seems to grow well I would keep it low in the tank, if not you could try higher in the tank after it recovers.

It may have come from under MH but unless you know how far away from the bulbs and whether it was shaded at all or not etc it's hard to say what it actually needs, some chalices like higher light than others.

Till it gets better, then slowly move it up. Chalices are weird, some of them like high lighting, and some like low lighting.

I read you dont want to put it on the sand....I was also told by the LFS that sand on it can kill it or injure it. I have mine on the bottom of the tank under a ledge but on a rock still

Ive never read that about chalices, actually about 3 out 4 chalices Ive seen have probably been on the sandbed.

I am thinking its getting way too much light being half way up your tank P. Try moving towards the bottom, even under a ledge/in partial shadow. Like Shackmel said, they don't like much light.

    OK, I have pics.

I moved it down about 4 hours ago. I am already seeing signs of improvement (it's bigger). It's still looking dangerous, but I have hope.

    A little time line.

    When I first added it

    Four days later
    It's horrid looking

And where it is now. The time frame is within minutes of the above shot. I don't have one from right now this instant. So you can't see the improvement. I will post a pic tomorrow or so too for comparison.

If you can, I would definately dip that puppy. He's not lost, he can recover. Whats the flow like? Make sure its gentle.
