Change impellers?

    any particular time one should change out impellers? or do they just break and thats it?

    Hmm. I would just check them once and a while...if they look bad replace them. Also if the pump starts to feel weak, thats a good sign that a change is in order.

    I would clean and lubricate them regularly. A good vinegar soak and a smear of vaseline will remove calcium buildup and reduce friction which should help extend the life of the impeller.
