I use instant ocean, for my ever growing reef tank (since i got the bug), i have since discovered that this salt is not intended for reef, that explains the low leves of calcium and magesium, now i was thinking of changing my salt to say reef crystals, but what could i expect as in a change to my tank, is it worth it?

I don't see any change as far as the tank (assuming you have been adding calc and mag), however, there may be "change" in your pocket (a little humor). The more reef targeted salt mixes may reduce the amount of supplements added. Of course, this is subjective, as we don't know the rate of usage of these elements by your tank.

Reef Crystals help but I would just invest in a calcium reactor, set it and forget it. Well not really but it's a lot easier. :)

I recently made the switch to Reef crystals. Noticed quite a bit of diatoms. Didn't think much of it, until I was at my LFS store in the past week and overheard another customer talking to the owner about using reef crystals a few months ago and having a bad outbreak of diatoms. Could just be coincidence, but I like to err on the side of caution.
My next salt I will try will be Red Sea Coral Pro Salt- this salt is actually formulated with RO/DI water in mind. It compensates for the heavy loss of minerals in the RO water. I have a friend who recently switched to this with EXCELLENT results. Mind you, thats just one person's opinion ;)

I like Tropic Marin. It's the closest to natural that you can get, I believe...

Well if it means anything I am also having second thoughts about Instant Ocean. Been using Reef Crystal but found it necessary to heavily supplement. I think IO is too low in calcium and buffer among other things. I am switching to Red Sea's newest formula made for RODI water.
