I am new to this and this is my first time on. I just set up my 12 gallon nano cube 1 week ago and I have noticed alot of change in my salinity, mostly when I add my fresh water top offs. It seems i have to add about 30 to 40 ounces of water a day this seems kind of high to me. i try to keep my salinity at 1.023 but after doing my fresh water top off I check it about a hour later and its down around 1.018 why is this? Any help would be great.

small tanks are susceptible to sudden changes. some sensitive animals might not like that. tyr doing things very slowly, say drip instead of pouring top off.

As the water evaporates, it leaves the salt behind, which raises the salinity level in the water that remains.

When do you get the 1.023 reading, is it right before you add the fresh top off water? Then adding the fresh will bring it down (diluting the water in the tank)

Dripping, like reiple said is much better for the smaller tanks. Keeps levels more stable. You could also add a bit of water several times a day. I have 2 small freshwater tanks and I just keep a gallon of water ready at all times and just pour a bit in when I walk by :)
