I am in the process of rinsing out my fluval filter and changing the charcoal. I am seeing tiny little wormy things in the filter. They look like pieces of white thread. They are about 1/4" long. They seem well attached to the plastic as they won't just wash off. Not moving, at least not that I can see. the tank has been up for about a year and a half. Am I seeing something good or bad?

Yes, they are hard and just crumble if I touch them. Thanks for the info.
