    Actually this is exactly what I would have thought. The range they work in is just below ambient to bright. Bright, they stay in normal. Ambient (or just below), they go in night. Darkness (or near darkness), they go in daytime mode.

    My moonlights + 'fuge light also keep them in night mode.
