so my new skimmer i just got requires a mag 9.5 to run it. i have one running my return to the tank right now. i dont really have any more money to spend on another mag right now so i was thinking about using my return pump to power the skimmer and then using a rio 2100 for the return.
will the 2100 be good enough for a couple weeks on a 90g.
just until i can afford another mag 9.5

That won't hurt unless the return was your sole source of circulation.

Ya i have 3 powerheads in the tank for movement. but the turnover rate with the rio is going to be way slower than the mag. just making sure ill be alright for a while

Turnover through the sump isn't as important as through the tank. You skimmer should be more efficient with a slower through put in the sump. You will lose flow at the surface on the return. Should not be a problem. You may like the set up the way it is after a month or so.

I would say since the skimmer is an adjunct to the filter process I would leave the Mag alone and run the skimmer with the 1200.

i would do that but the skimmer needs a mag 9.5 to run. anything lower and it wont work correctly. unclejed have your heard of the bashsea brand yet?? there based in michigan. i just got one of there twisted skimmers. thats what the mag is for.
