um the moonlights are just to show the bright colors in the corals..i dont think it will make the corals different brighter colors like an actinic, but it could be in some way some how i guess..you can leave it running 24/7..moonlights also help with fish spawning, dont remember exactly how, but read somewhere these moonlights help with fish spawning, maybe making it more natural..i also read somewhere that it had to be a certain lumen or something to make it an official moonlight..i dont know how accurate this is, but i have read it a few times on random forums..

i like my dkh a little lower around 8 and a mag around 1400..ever since i switched from reef crystals to coralife, i have had really good numbers and never have to dose anymore, and its cheaper..

    thanks saintsfan

maybe its just a visual thing that the color in the centre just stands out a bit more.
i'm really counting down the weeks til my boost bulbs ready lol, i'm sure that will help with some actual color.

that was from the first test i've done with those kits so my numbers may be a little off, pretty sure the mag was a bit higher but thought i'd be conservative.

sea water seems to be the cheapest option around here, and so far i've been happier with the test results from it than i expected. not sure why i expected it to be lacking now that i think about it, seems to work alright for real reefs lol.

been a little while so this could be a long winded update lol

funding has once again been diverted to something else so there hasnt been as much progress as i would have liked, but theres still been quite a bit happening...
funding has been temporarliy diverted to - a holiday!!!! i'm gonna be spending about 3 weeks in the united states in july! ;D so at least theres a good reward for spending less this time.

but while saving, i've still managed to get my new boostLED bulb! was a long wait to get 240v version, but well worth it

alot more purple than i expected, but i'm getting used to it and my zoas look more colourful than they did.

picked up about 5 little turbo snails at a local reef club meeting and my minor gha issues have completely disappeared! dont know what i was doing without them!

i also just got some new zoas. should probably try something new, but its a small tank and i've having trouble finding corals i can commit my very limited real estate to :-/

i could barely see the bright yellow ring of these little fellas at the LFS and although there was only a couple heads, i had to get them! i really love the colour and hope they grow out to be awesome
    [IMG]

these ones also seem to grow alot differently to the original zoas i had. they are alot smaller and seem to stick closer to the rock. also the colour compared to the others is pretty crazy, even under normal lights
    [IMG]

i got excited when i found some tiny red fan worms near my shrooms, but then this little guy came in on the new rock! seems to be a huge bright orange fanworm. i love hitchhikers lol.

i've also ordered my first ro/di!!! its at the post office now, but i cant get there til the weekend so my patience is being tested again.
its no spectrapure, but after quite a bit of research it seemed to be the best option my kangaroo could carry. might post some pics when it gets here :)

long overdue ro/di installed. should have got one a looong time ago.

    ricordias. i like them :)

first lps, from a local frag meet!
had some issues to start with [http://www.3reef.com/forums/coral/sick-euphyllia-ancora-hammer-107646.html] has improved alot since i think, but has lost the color it seemed to start with? am i imagining that? is there a way to get it back?

also, got my first SPS frag last night from a local reefer!

it doesnt look like it enjoyed the move and i question its life expectancy but he said i could take it just to see how it goes.
i got the impression it was slow growing which i think might be good in this sized tank. can anyone ID? i thought maybe branching monti, but thats an outright guess?? :-/
have put in fresh gfo and a stack of new carbon and pointed a little pump at it to try give it a fighting chance.

also, my coralline seems to all be receeding. am sure i've read of other people having it go nuts under a boost bulb so i must be missing something. all my test results seem to have been in good ranges so will wait it out a bit longer and hope for improvement.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I believe the coralline is adjusting to the change in lighting. It will probably come back or change slowly.

Hope the hammer makes a come back.

    I like your nano.

    thanks corailline :)
the hammer seems to be getting bigger now, just alot more pale than it used to be.
its still a long way from the quality of your nano (which is some fantastic work! congratz!) but i think the practice has been good for me

    Very nice adds,Chappy, congrats

    The SPS is an Acropora

Your hammer looks healthy, so your lighting may be more than the coral needs IME.
