I went to my LFS which loses fish left right and center and there was this little yellowheaded jaw fish. There was no price but i knew what it was. the employees of course didnt and had to move the rock it was under to look at it.

It was in a 20 gal tank with about 6 small blue tangs and as soon as the rock was moved they attacked him like sharks. so i felt like i sent him to his death bed....

so i bought him..... and now its barely eating but at least its not being eaten alive.

Has anyone else bought a charity case fish from a lfs before or is that just me?

Well pearly jawfish are great additions to tanks. I like them alot, their really cool fish.

They are extremely timid, so it may take him some time to start moving around the tank or eat. They are also jumpers, so make sure your lids are on tight. And they love a deep sand bed.

I currently have a jawfish that when the store got him in it was beaten up pretty bad. They had it for two weeks before I bought it and it healed some. As long as no other fish is picking on it and it can eat it should get better. Lids are a must with these guys. Sometimes they WILL jump through the eggcrate though =/

I've never purchased a charity fish, but I have rescued both a mandarin and a butterfly from negligent/uninformed owners. Butterfly didnt make it. I managed to bring the mandarin back from starvation only to have it jump 9 months later.

Yea you're going to need a lid. They can jump through the smallest cracks too. I had a gap smaller than 1/4" and mine would always jump through it and into my overflow.

I bought a chocolate chip star from petco once. I felt so bad it was almost white. I had it live for a long time till I traded it to go reef.
