I'm thinking about buying a calcium reactor, but I dont really want to spend a ton of money. I have some new sps from frag swap!! (Red montipora, yellow cup, purple haze cup, green hydnophora and some kind of green montipora) and they are doing great so far i am light acclamating with window screen. Also get another question, i have had the green montipora for about 2 weeks and i move it like 3or4 inches every week is that the right way to light acclamate them? I will buy a co2 tank from a local hardwear store.

Fwiw, I bought my slightly used Geo ca RX with everything but the milwaukee ph controller for $250.

Look around for a used geo, they really do make the best Ca reactors.

Whatever you end up with though, get a ph controller. IMHO, running a Ca RX without one is a good way to nuke your tank.

you get what you pay for in a calcium reactor. You will have to get a regulator, ph controller etc also.

Look at your local reef club. A lot of people are getting out of the hobby right now due to finances, and my club has good reactors up for sale a lot

Calcium reactors are expensive, especially with all the other peices you need.Go with what others have said, buy a quality used one.

Sounds like a plan. I will check out more of the used stuff. I'll keep dosing until I find the right one price and quality. Is cal level of 420 low?

    no, that is fine!

I keep my calcium around 440 but that can fluctuate some, kH 10, pH 8.2-8.4

If you are only starting with SPS you can save yourself a lot of money and dose. I dose kalk every couple nights. I was looking into a calcium reactor and it just was not feasible for me at this point..... $800 calcium reactor vs $15 every couple months for kalk, $10 or so for mag....

I also just saw your second part of post on SPS acclimating. That sounds like you are doing right to me. I have not used the window before but starting from the bottom and moving up works best when you dont know what type of light they were growing under. When I get anything from frag swap I do that, if I get it from my LFS and they have had it for a bit I know what type of lights they have and can start higher!

Also FYI, hydno will sting anything near it so make sure you keep some space between it and other corals. I left several inches between my small hydno and my acans and one day they hydno had sweeper tentacles attacking my acan
