Live rock online is tough in my opinion. When they ship it a large portion of what makes it "live" dies off and then starts a cycle. You would do better to gte dry base rock (cheaper) and then "seed" it with some local live rock from a LFS or a local reefer. It doesn;t take much

+1 to dry rock... why pay 400+ for live rock when you can get the same amount of rock for 1/2 the price or cheaper. Live sand and a couple pieces of local liverock and bam, you're good to go. Sure may take a little longer to cycle but worth the savings imo.

You're looking at paying $800 in live rock if you go in that direction. I too would go with base.

You would be amazed at how many things survive shipment in live rock. You can still cycle with dry rock. Buy some dry and some live and let it cycle away.

Agreed on mixing live rock and dead rock. I just did this with mine, getting 100 lbs of dry rock from Reefrocks.net, and 75 lbs of live rock from liverockranch.com. Not saying you should do the same, but just giving you some ideas. If you are doing a FOWLR, you do not need as much live rock as you would with a reef tank (imo).

    Where is near you?

But I agree that you should maybe get 100#s of dry rock and then maybe 10-20 o live!

I'd order from reed rocks.com. Ya get 40#s of a great quality sand shipped for $15 when you buy 30#s of dry rock! That'll save ya cost of the sand for your live rock! And I'd order that from reefcleaners!

    Good luck
