I have a question for those in the know here. I would like to change the flow in my tank from constant flow to pulsing waves. In other words, I'd like a type of wavemaker, but I don't want to spend a lot of money on it. I know about powerbars that have so-called wavemaker cycles, but these generally cycle at a minimum of 20-30 seconds, which is much too long to be a real wavemaker. I am looking for something that cycles every couple of seconds to alternate the flow between my modded maxijet 1200s.

Does anyone know of something that will do this for a relatively cheap price? So far the best I can find is the digital aquatics reefkeeper lite, which has a built in wavemaker. I can pick that up for about $110 (CDN). But I am hoping someone knows of something cheaper and simple that cycles every few seconds?

I have 2 modded maxijets and they don't work to well with the rapid on off. Sometimes they spin bakwards and sometimes don't spin at all. They are also VERY loud at start up. Otherwise though the reefkeeper lite worked great for the wavemaker feature

There's ZooMed Powersweep's. The suction cups tend to fail and if you dont keep them clean the sweeping head sticks.

There's an oscillating adapter that fits most PH outflow's they're around $13 each.

There's the SCWD, $25-35, you could run from the return off of your sump or canister. You could also DIY a closed loop.

Or you can create random turbulence by pointing a PH from the rear corner to front center of your tank glass and one rear center to front center. Point one of the flow streams up enough to just break the surface tension of your water.
    ;D

Oh almost forgot the Natural WaveMaker timer from Marineland. Times 3 maxijets on 3 seperate cycles. $47 usd on Drs. FosterandSmith. I had one but it quit working properly in less than two months and also burned out one maxi-jet.

The maxijets aren't designed to be used with any sort of wave maker as noted above. I think you will have issues trying to use them as such. You could try to look for used equipment that's designed to be used with wavemakers.
