hello, all i am trying to get this 55 gal up and running. I built a sump.and over flow. EVERY THING IS SO PRICEY! Thats why i have been building the filter system. But i can not build the light. I need a 48" T5 I think about 200w not sure. I'm going to have coral, maybe a fish or two. Is there a place to get the light cheaper that will work for me?

look at the nova extremes, or even craigs list for something used. When you say cheap, what does cheap mean? What are you looking to spend?

If you are handy and can build a hood, you can pick stuff up off of RC for cheap. I got two 250W MH and a VHO setup for 150 shipped.

i would avoid ebay unless you really know what you're looking at.

a VHO setup is pretty inexpensive, you can get 220w for like 150 bucks...

i've heard the VHO actinics are the best around... a lot of watts per dollar...

basically it comes down to how much polish you wanna pay for... if you want just a ballast a bulb and a ugly reflector to jam in your canopy then you can do any lighting option really cheap.

if you want a nice fancy shiny fixture that looks like a piece of art with moonlights and built in timers and etc it's gonna cost you.
