Is there a risk of getting algae growth in my display tank by pieces of my macroalgae that resides in my refugium breaking free and entering my tank? ie cheato

Depends on the algae. If it's something like caulerpa, there's a definite risk of it growing in the DT, since it may get a foothold in a rock before you can get it out. If it's chaeto, it's not likely, and chaeto can be plucked out easily like drew said.

What is your live stock like?

If any caulerpa ended in my DT my damsel would destroy it before it got started. I purposely put large chunks in there to see if it would grow and she destroys it. If you have any tangs or strictly herbivore fish the odds are worse.

+1 I grow some in my refugium to put into the DT for the herbivors to graze on... it never lasts...
