Hi i have some cheato macro algae growing in my main tank (I dont own a sump)
It looks ok but i moved it today during water change and it seemed really "dry" and brittle.

    Has it died off?
    All my params look ok.

    Help!

It’s a good thing – means that you do not have the excess nutrients in your water column to support the continued life of the algae. I find macro’s in the DT not to be attractive anyway - but that mighht just be me.

You'll want to remove any dead/dying parts so as they don't decompose in the tank and release nutrients back into the tank. When it's actually dead, it will turn brown.

Remove the dead sections or remove it all together, sounds like your system is not in need of this macro any longer -- good for you.

I will remove it, i never actually liked it in the tank anyway but it did help with nitrate removal.

Can you post a picture? I have not seen Chaeto turn hard and brittle? Generally it turns white or translucent then browns as it dies.

looks pretty healthy from what I can see, are you seeing any of it coming loose? Has it lost any density?
