not sure if this should be in the goldfish forum or not, but it is water chemistry just for goldfish.trace elements for goldfish what will come out next;D
    Seachem. Gold Trace
seachem also makes salt Seachem. Gold Salt
i wonder what makes it special, just aquarium salt in a fancy package?

    heres gold buffer
gold buffer contains sodium, potassium, magnesium, etc what the heck could be in the gold salt thats not contained in gold buffer?

ok guys you can go back to your reef related activities, but dont forget check out fresh stuff too its good for you.;D
ive never enjoyed fresh more then when i set one up besides my salt, its like reading harry potter(or dorain grey for those that have read it) during breaks from war and peace.

I've seen their lab (Seachem), and TRUST me if it's in there it's good for the fish and helps to replicate the natural environment and closely as possible. Aquarium Salt by API is ROCK SALT, the same kind you use to keep home made ice cream cold. Live Bearer Salt (by Seachem for Guppies, Platies, FW Puffers, etc) is a blend of things that aren't harmful to plants and scaleless fish (I've seen aquarium salt burn a hole in a pleco's skin).

The answer to your question though, is that the Gold Salt is a one time additive (like adding reef salt to RO/DI water for a saltwater tank) and the Buffer is to maintain pH and has to be added as the pK of the water is lowered by the acid in fish waste. pK is the ability of the water to maintain (or alter PH). The Gold Trace has trace minerals that are needed by the fish for proper organ function (like iodide) but depleted quickly by consumption, evaporation or filtration.

Seachem usually makes a Salt, Buffer, Trace combo for all fish, except Discus and they don't make a Discus Salt, just a Discus Buffer.
