Chemi-clean safe?????

I didn't know that Chemi Clean was an antibiotic!

That is the last time i use Chemi-Clean. It completely blew up my protein skimmer and my tank looks like a mirco-bubble heavy metal concert.

What can i do to calm this down, it did get rid of the cyno but this I am sure is not good. I have not filtration going on now for my skimmer is just overflowing constantly. What can i do?

 

I think it's an Oxidizer. My guess would be Potassium Permanganate.

 

Before we go much further, did you happen to read the directions? If so, and you have done the water change, you skimmer will go nuts for a bit, but it will settle down. Just sit tight, empty the cup when it needs it and relax.

 

did exact, changed the water, skimmer still going nuts. I don't need to empty the bowl for as soon as i plug the skimmer in the bowl fills and over flows. I can not lower the riser any more of open my valve gate any further. This has been going on since friday night. The cyno is gone, thats goo! How much water should i change out. I have done 20gal on a 90 so far.

 

20 gal water change is enough, your skimmer should calm down in a few days. I have used this one time abut 4 months ago and it has worked fine for me, have had no problem with it at all since. The one thing i would suggest is that 48 hours after the second dose (which is to be done 48 hours after the 1st) try to remove as much of the dead stuff off the sand surface, then do the water change.

 

I used Kent Marines Poly Ox along with a phosphate absorbing resin to get rid of cyanobacteria. Poly Ox is potassium permanganate. Its dosed at very small amounts twice daily for 2 weeks and then you must do a 25% water change. I used the phosphban before and after the treatment. Before using it you should vacuum clean your substrate as much as possible and clean off as much red slime as possible. I also left the tank lights off for 2weeks. It worked great for me. Nitrates-5, Phosphates-0, Cyano bacteria-0

 

Chemi-clean is an oxidizer and not an antibiotic. Antibiotics do not treat virus so you can not make a "super" viral strain by using antibiotics.

That being said, yes anitbiotics in humans are being overused and the wrong type (spectrum) is being used to treat alot of infections.
