    Hey all,

I just got a large container of Chemi Pure Elite and wanted to run it in my TLF 150 Reactor. I have not read about anyone pouring it straight into the reactor or not. I would love some insight if anyone is running it in their reactor and if the granules are ok to pour straight in. I don't believe it's designed to be run in a reactor or it would have some mention on it, but it does say to not "take it out of the bag"... but I'm sure someone has tried it hopefully.

I think I saw something where someone had stuffed the smaller bags of it in the reactor bag and all but wasn't sure that was a good idea or not either.

Let me know before I open it up and make a mess :)

    Thanks in advance!

i dont use the elite, but im sure its the same type product of the regular chemipure. which i pour into my reactor , which is a TLF also. for my 90 i use 10 oz , which i change monthly. just get a light perculation of the product in the reactor. and also rinse it well before putting in. nope this helps mojoe.

Thanks, def helps! I noticed the granules are a bit smaller than other media I've run in the reactor so I wanted to make sure. As you mentioned though I know the regular and elite are most likely the same size so I feel better about opening it now.

I've used chemipure elite in a phosban reactor. It works great! The only reason I stopped was that I was never sure which was used up first - the carbon or the GFO, and so I never knew when to replace it. Now I use 2 TLF reactors, one with carbon and the other with GFO. But I digress - to answer your question, the chemipure elite will work fine in your reactor.

Excellent, thanks for the input. Can I ask how much you used in it & the size of your tank? I have a 55g, so I normally run about 250ml-300ml of media in the reactor but being smaller granules I'm unsure on what would be the best amount.

Yes, that would be the concern; "The only reason I stopped was that I was never sure which was used up first - the carbon or the GFO, and so I never knew when to replace it." Also, carbon should not be tumbled and GFO should. I have used the Elite but in the micron bag.

I was going to change out the media when I was getting any increase in PO4 reading, figured that would be ok.

Well, that is what the media directions say, however, I believe in prevention. Why let the PO4 even start to show up? Kind of like people taking medicine after they get a cold. Get enough vit C and D and keep your immune system balanced and you prevent the cold. I change my Pura Phoslock and Carbon monthly.

It's a 90g with 30g sump (see my sig.), and fairly heavily stocked. I changed the chemipure elite at about the 5-6 week mark. But I agree with Unclejed that I wouldn't wait until you see phosphate show up to do it - by then it's too late. I do find it cheaper in the long run to use bulk reef supply carbon and high capacity GFO, though, and change them independently.
