The problem that I had using the elite in a reactor is that it seems that there is not enough gfo in the elite to really drop po4 as much as using gfo in a standalon reactor. I now use 2 reactors one with gfo and one with gac and get better results because the gac will only last about half as long as the gfo. Another thing is the other media in the elite does nothing in a saltwater environment. (you can read many threads in regards to this)

Thx for the advice on when to change out the media, makes sense. Even though I say I'd change out when I detect the PO4 I usually have a normal regimen of weeks I'd go by before anything was detectable.

Kracer: that is prob right, as the media isn't 100% dedicated to PO4 removal. Have you tested your params and found the CPE didn't lower the PO4 properly?

NUGIO: I'm not running a refugium

Yes I was running carbon in the sump and gfo in a tlf reactor for about a year. po4 was always undectable. I switched to cpe and my po4 would stay around .2 after I switched to seperate reactors for both po4 back to undectable.
I have a 90 mixed reef with 10 gallon fuge. and 10 gallon sump. large basketball of cheato and without gfo and gac po4 is always around .4
Guess you could say I over feed with my purple tang (eating machine), 2 pink skunk clowns, 6 line, 2 chromies, and midas blenny.

As far as running it unbagged it worked just fine as long as you keep the flow low enough because the di media in the CPE will seep past the sponges in the tlf reactor if the flow is set too high.

Will do, I think I've read somewhere else you can sandwich the CPE with filter floss to hinder anything getting past the sponges also.
