Vinny I was lumping us in the same group, which for me is a positive.

I can not provide a good logical argument as to why I have been reluctant to change other than I know what has worked in the past and illogically I am afraid LED will not.

Yes it works well for you guys and your tanks look fantastic.

Since I have been doing the research that must mean I am a lot closer than I was 6 months ago. Checking the sites, checking out local reefers selling them....baby steps.

I bought two but I didn't need to_One has worked just fine and I love the fact that I do not have to lower light sensitive corals but simply move them to one side or the other. This has been an unexpected benefit as I now have more options for coral placement.

    I am not lumpy either.......;D

Originally, I had the TEK over the DT. I was very happy with the color. When the frag tank was started up, I put two four color PAR 38 Rapid LED's over it. The DT paled in comparison in color and shimmer. Had to switch the DT to LED's but didn't want to lay out a lot of cash. Very happy with just the blues, but less than happy when all of the lights were on. Not bad, but not as good as the frag tank. Thought about swapping out some of the white LED's for colored ones like Vinny, but too lazy/busy/stupid to do anything about it. Was running lights 9 hours blues 4 hours whites. Some LPS were stressing slightly with any more than that. Figured that when all of the lights were on at once, it's just too much. Less white would also give better overall color. Saw Todd did what I was too lazy to try, did it myself two days ago, and like the lights even more. I predict even better results with the SPS now. [IMG] Keep in mind that I have only done one wc in about a year and a half.

Do you still have the Rapid's over the frag tank, because I remember an image of that on your thread? Are there any recent images?

There are a few nano reefers on another forum that used them over there nanos' I am not a fan of the look of the bulb fixture but the color to the nano and the corals is the bomb.

I also read that since you use a regular socket sometimes you do not get the best intensity?

And Vinny your avatar says differently.

The socket means nothing. That's simply the connecting method. I'll look for a picture, or take another.

Yeah that made no sense to me.

I would appreciate an image for sure, thank you.

Your sps frags if I remember correctly do great under it, did you not pale your RP when you first got it and put it in the frag tank?

yep. I would need one more to grow really good SPS throughout the frag tank. The PAR bulbs are very intense in the center, but it drops off quick as you go outwards. A regular fixture or retrofit would be better for your tank. Do you use or still have the hood? The 14 Biocube that I bought for my son has the Rapid LED retro in it. Very intense light and good color. Not set up yet, though.

    Yeah I do.

I have been thinking about a retro fit as well.

JBJ make a LED Pro hood now, it expensive and some say it is too intense I do not even know if you can dim it, I doubt it.
