Check out this image Corailline, it's probably very rare, but neat none the less. Clown fish hosting in a Goniopora.

Oh I think they are lovely corals Jeff,

I wish I could be sure that my tank could support one, they seem to like more nutrients than I like to add to my tank.

My Duncan does well but they are easy.

What is the scoop on goniopora? My LFS always seems to steer me away from them. I love them. Not trying to highjack, just would really like the input.

They are one of the strangest corals ever. Their survival rate is really bad but no one can really tell why they don't do well. Sorta like xenia. Mine may thrive but if I take some of mine and put it in your tank, it could just melt. Even if parameters and lighting are identical.

    No highjack. :)

About 10 years ago they were called rent a coral , because they tended to do well for about 3 months than then die.

It seems like higher tech systems with very low nutrients are not ideal settings for them (yes there are exceptions).

In the last couple years though feeding methods have improved, they are more successfully aquacultured and less sensitive specimen types are now available.

Nutrition seems to be the biggest issue. In the wild they can be found in back reefs where they experience periods of increased water turbidity and possibly more nutrient exposure.
