Use calibration fluid on your refractometer, DI causes the readings to be off as much as .05.

Do not get a reptile tank they have weaker glass and seals.

Playing catch up on this thread.

A 55 probably has the worst dimensions of all standard tanks IMO. 12" front-to-back is terrible for everything.

That is surprising actually. (coming from someone who knows the rural-ness).

    :)

    LOL

And as these two ↓ pointed out, the glass is typically thinner on those.

I vote 40 breeder DT, 40 breeder sump. $80 on sale. ;) Calibrating solution was my biggest improvement in the last year. I check calibration every time I use the refractometer. Should have done it from day one.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I have a feeling we all be fast friends for reals.:)
    Wow that is a lot.

Hence the reason the tank is cheaper I guess. Here I thought I was being sneaky buying the same tank for less.

    Hi Hunter.

Well calibration fluid it is. Calibrate every time, learn something new every day.

What brand of calibration fluid do you guys get?

While looking for calibration fluid on the internet I came across the little know fact that bee keepers use refractometers for honey.::)

@Shin, shading does prove to be a challenge, and thank you.

    Hi FB.

    Yup 20 gallon sump.

No barebottom. I have decided they are an acquired taste, I have not acquired that taste. Excellent for frags tanks and might work better in big tanks. I think the SB provided some basic flora and fauna that is beneficial to sps.

I liked the BB, but after the novelty wore off, I really missed the sand.

Now, you know if you go with the 40b, you're not far from the 180. Heck, it's only 4x bigger. Think of your corals! They'll love you for that decision Cheryl.......Soooooooo much grow space..........
