I want to add a tang to my tank. I am replacing a desjardini sailfin that got too big.

I have a 90 with about 15 in the sump. I currently have a medium Majestic angel (may go soon too), 2 ocillaris clowns (1 black, 1 orange) and a six-line wrass.

I would like to say that I'll soon be upgrading to a 135, but can't say for sure. So, I'd like something that I could keep in the 90 if necessary. The only tangs I can find that I think would be ok in a 90 reef are the Kole, Convict, or Chevron. I'm not a fan of the yellow and don't think I want the aggression issues with the purple. Tomini seem kinda blah too.

Any thought's on these choices? Does anyone have any others I could add to my list? At this point I'm not a fan of any of these. Sometimes it sucks having to live within your tank's limits :-/

I like the Chevron tang the best out of those three. They are beautiful! But that's just based on looks, I don't know about actually keeping them.

What about the two spot bristletooth tang? Liveaquaria says minimum 70 gallons. If I get a 90 gallon, I'm gonna get one of these!

Kole tangs are awesome easy to keep fish. They are algae eating machines too.

How about a Caribbean blue. Same body of the desjarni and yellow, but without the aggression.

Out of the ones you picked, I love the Kole. Very minimalistic beauty, but that chevron has perked my interest lately

I would say get a two spot bristletooth tang. I ahve both a kole, and a 2 spot, and the kole is kind of a jerk, but that is almost to be expected when you get 2 b tooths that look very similar in body shape.

The 2 spot will get bigger than a kole though. As far as coloration, the 2 spot is far and above a nicer looking fish.

The chevron is an absolutely gorgeous dish when young, but get very drab when mature.
Also, take not that the chevron is probably 3 timesa s expensive as either the kole or 2 spot. I bout both my bristletooth tangs for $35 each. I have never seen a chevron go for less than $125.

I know you said you didn't want a yellow because of aggression issues. However I don;t think you could really risk 2 tangs in a 90G, therefore conflict shouldn't matter. (what are it's dimensions?). Length is most important - they love to swim.

I've found that if they are added last and none of your others are too aggressive then it'll be ok.

    But thats m2c.

PS. Kole out of your other suggestions unless price isn't an issue, then get chevron instead.

Tomini tang is another alternitive to the kole and chevron.

Since I am pretty sure most people don't know what a 2 spot bristletooth (also called a blue eye tang) looks like, I thought I would add a pic. Here is a two spot bristletooth tang (ctenochaetus binotatus)

compare that to the kole tang

And then you will see why I am a fan of the 2 spot. Plus, the kole is much meaner fish disposition wise compared to the 2 spot. The chevron when fully grown will be a very dark green, and IMHO, not that good looking. The 2 spot does not lose its juvenile coloration.

Thanks, I'll add the 2 spot to my list. Definitely a good idea. What I really want is a bigger tank and multiple tangs. Then I could get rid of my majestic angel, which is beautiful, but unfortunately loves LPS.
