I was doing a research for this tank size. It seems like 1/4 HP is enough. My question is, is overkill better? let say 1/2 HP. The higher power will chill the water easier, correct? but the downside is more power to use?

yeah i have a higher rated chiller for my tank. I have a 1/4 hp on my 125g. I figured in case i ever upgraded the tank i wouldnt have to buy a new one.

It will run for less time so you won't have to deal with the noise as much. I would go with an oversized unit.

    Thank you everyone.

Thanks. I am trying to figure out which one is more efficient. The smaller chiller basically will be on longer, hence using power longer (time) but less power.

So technically, as far as power consumption, it's almost the same? In the end it's all about saving. :)
