I thought I had scored on a chiller that I picked up for free. It works great and chills the water but after a few days it developed a leak. Thought it was condensation (thanks Chris) but after I took the shroud off to inspect it a little more there is some rusted areas o concern. I don't know much about chillers so I'm hoping you all can enlighten me.

My guess this is the temp sensor

Where the water enters or exits the cooling unit.

Where the water again enters or exits the cooling unit.

    The whole unit.

I don't know why when I took it apart a few months ago I didn't think this was no big deal. Seems to me it is.
All help and advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

OH NO!! I really hope that Ryan is wrong. Hopefully some of the many knowledgeable mechanical people will chime in with a possible fix. I thought you just found this diver? you mentioned you took it apart months ago?

the larger container in the middle is your condenser that has a high and low side and without a pressure gauge there is now way of knowing if its ok. if you have a hvac guy have him pressure test the system but once the condenser goes its game over.

None taken. I'm hoping not but looking that way.

I'm hoping so too. I just got around to setting it up. I did get it several months ago from a post on a local forum "free chiller in alley behind my buddy's house". Kinda thought it was too good to be true. But it was worth a shot. I took it apart when I got it and I guess I overlooked the rustiness because I wasn't goin to set it up right away, I don't remember.
Hopefully someone has had a similar issue.
As of now its just questionable and I won't even consider setting it up. To much time and effort invested to risk it.

It doesn't seem to be a pressure issue. The condenser is working fine. It chills like a mad man. Is this still a possibility or should I take it to an appliance store? Would it be worth the investment or does it look gone?

You could clean it up some and try using some epoxy to seal any leaks, or try and get someone who knows refrigeration give you an estimate if you don't want to fool with it yourself. A 1 hp chiller ain't cheap, so it may be worth fixing it.

What I normally do is look up the parts to see if they can be found easily and the price. If the parts are way expensive then I would consider buying a new one and avoiding the hassles. If the replacement parts are close to or more then half the cost of a new one I would go with the new one.

I think I am going to take this apart, carefully. Give it the three time over, clean it up and epoxy anything in question. Totally agree with you Greg that they're not cheap. I can't afford a new one. Heck can't even afford a used one. Lol.

Does anyone know of a reef safe epoxy they have used and also where the heck can I find parts for an older Aqua Medic Titan 2000 chiller. I've looked and short of calling the company I can't find anything.

    Thanks for all the help.

all a/c type units run an extremely high pressure. if the lines or anything was leaking it would not cool. looks like youve just got standing water or possibly a saltwater leak. just clean it up and seal it with something and make sure any condensation drains are not plugged.

That is exactly what I was thinking.
My only concern is the fittings and rust into the water system. I want to basically remove everything off the bottom plate (with exception of taking apart the condenser or anything that would release the cooling fluid.)
I would remove the fittings that are in the first and second pic and clean up the bottom plate. Still can't find replacement parts and I would use picture 2 part epoxy or aqua weld. Any thoughts against any of this?
