I only have 42 total gallons of water, so it heats up fast with a 250w MH and 4 24" VHO's! I keep the A/C on pretty much 24/7 to keep the tank in the 81 degree range.

My girlfriend always complains that shes cold...poor girl. :p

She is now insisting that I get a chiller. Guess Im going to have to bite the bullet, and give her what she wants...lol ;D

I have been called worse by better! :) I know how inefficient a chiller is on a commercial scale quality where the Fed's regulate and SEER and BTU and H.P ratings I rather keep me cool at 72 or so and that keeps the tank cool One fan does not a redneck make LOL

I had a guy to call me a County Hick once ! Hillbilly is what he said LOL in N.J in the 70's building the Playboy Club in Atlantic city I looked him right in the face and said will Its two kinds of people in the world Hillbillys and SOB's I used the full words ! and we know I'm the hillybilly , About 2 days latter I laid him out in a Local Bar . LOL

I have a little 12G nano with twin 24W CF's, and very poor circulation from the house A/C where the tank sits on a south facing outside wall. The tank idles around 79 at night (no lights), and can easily clear 85 by the afternoon if the lid is closed and the aux room A/C (installed just for this silly tank) is off. Did the fans, and here it’s just a band-aid. You have to fill the tank daily up to 1/2G at times.

SO, last week I installed the little JBJ Arctic Nano chiller. Now I can let the room do whatever it wants, turn the A/C on whenever we’re in there, run the tank lights when I want with the lid closed, and for literally 1/10 the power of the room AC running probably ½ the time. Doesn’t take a genius to run the numbers on this.

It all really depends on your budget and the price of livestock in the tank. Some can keep water cool with fans and some can't. The only thing I worry about is the AC quitting. :-/ That is why I got one just so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Do they make chillers for 30 gallons? I've looked around but only seen for 55 & up. If they don't where can i get a fan set up?
