I just bought a chiller for the 150 gallon that I will be setting up in the coming months. I am wondering where all of you with chillers keep you chiller. It seems to me that keeping it in the same general area as the tank would just remove the heat from the tank transfer it to the room and then return it to the tank. So i am looking for ideas or am i wrong on this thought.

You are correct all you will be doing is paying $$$ to move heat molecule's around Like having the A/C condenser in the house while running gas through the evaporator coil to cool the room LOL Thats why all condenser coils are blowing or located outside the conditioned space

I open the garage door in the summer time to allow for cooler air across the cond. coil , My 1 hp chiller with a scroll compressor will heat a 24x15 garage up to 75F with a outside temp of 10F thats how much heat it pulled from a 180 and released in the garage space in the winter Now with this 90 maybe a little less

Tangster couldn't have said it better. I fabricated a piece of sheet metal that I have a 6" duct connected to and a 310 cfm fan that I turn on when the chiller is on and vent all the heat outside.

Mine are next to my tanks, next to the stand. I wish I could locate them elsewhere, but I can't. :(

Well i think i may have an issue then as i have the aqualogic 1/2 Hp chiller with the coil that you insert into the sump. This set up limits me to being about 5 ft from the tank. Going to have to get creative on this one i think.

I would recommend you increase the amount of flow cooling the condenser by putting an extra fan in front of the intake of the unit. Also, make sure there is plenty of room for the air to exhast. You want to have as much flow as possible to cool the chiller's internal parts so they don't overheat...
