I am currently looking into purchasing a chiller and had a few questions.

I am planning on attaching it to my 72 gallon. My question is this, Would it be better to purchase one rated up to 180 gallons or just go with the one rated up to 130 gallons. The price difference is is nominal between the two. I am thinking however a bigger unit will work less and therefore cause less heat in my house; in turn giving me a lower electric bill overall.

    Any suggestions?

When I was buying a chiller recently I noticed that usually the bigger they are the more wattage they draw therefore requiring a little more power to run, so it's hard to say whether the bigger one that uses more power but will run for shorter lengths of time will use less power than the smaller unit. Just check how many watts they are rated.

Buy the bigger one. It will chill the water a tad faster, which means it will run less hours per day. Just like what accent stated. When in doubt, go bigger.

When we were looking at chillers, we went bigger cause its an expensive purchase and I dont want to buy another if we go with a bigger tank later on. Plus if it is close to where you sit and watch tv you might not want to hear it kick on a lot.
